We are proudly a Smart Device-Free Campus

Modern science is validating what Waldorf teachers have known for a long time: the consumption of media by infants, children and young people inhibits healthy development.

School Policies & Commitments

The State of California School Attendance Law requires that all children entering school comply with the Department of Health regulations summarized below. Homeopathic preparations or homeoprophylaxis are not considered vaccines by the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and so do not meet the immunization requirements for entry to California schools.

To enhance our Emergency Preparedness, we have implemented an updated Visitor Policy which requires all visitors, including parents, to check in at one of our offices and receive a lanyard to wear (green for parents/community members; red for general visitors). This ensures the safety and accountability of everyone on campus, especially during an emergency where it is our responsibility to ensure the location and safety of every individual on campus.

We Respect Your Privacy. Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm (“SWSF”) values and respects privacy very highly, as well as the trust of our families and our community. This Privacy Policy clarifies the collection, use, and disclosure of information that you may provide through our website (summerfieldwaldorf.org).

Anti-Discrimination Policy

Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm teachers, staff and administrators believe that each human being brings unique gifts and needs to the world. We honor and celebrate the differences between us, knowing that diversity and complexity in our human relationships makes our community more vital, creative and resilient.

This policy supports individuals who experience discrimination as well as individuals discriminating against them and each member of this community as we strive to create an ever more inclusive and welcoming school.

At Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm, we place an emphasis on direct human interaction and authentic experiences. Studies show that a direct experience, as opposed to a virtual one, has a measurable positive impact on brain development throughout childhood into adulthood. Children are better off when none have access to these devices until they are ready for them. Issues associated with premature media and phone usage, especially smartphones with unlimited internet access, are proven to have detrimental effects on a young person’s social, emotional, and psychological stability and well-being.

DEI Commitment

Summerfield Waldorf is committed to strengthening and furthering our efforts on a daily basis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for all students, their families, faculty, and staff. We have a dedicated DEI committee that meets monthly to accomplish strategic DEI initiatives within our school.

In addition, we are one of only a few private schools which offers a dedicated Safe Space Group for Grades 7-12.  This welcoming and accepting social space is for students and their allies to support and learn from each other, and explore relevant topics and concerns.

Environmental & Indigenous Land Commitment

The Summerfield community honors the sacred earth upon which our school and farm lies, and we acknowledge that our campus is located on the traditional lands of the Southern Pomo People. We pay our respects to Pomo elders both past and present and recognize that this land was not given freely, but rather, it is stolen land from which the Pomo People were removed by force. We recognize that it is upon this legacy that we build our community today.
